The problem

The device is sealed. Its only opening is a single USB-C port that has to serve as the product's data interface — and also as the service engineer's way in for a debug console and for forced-recovery flashing. Adding a second connector was not an option.

What we built

  • Carrier board for the NVIDIA Jetson Orin module, designed in Altium Designer on the basis of the NVIDIA reference design
  • USB-C port with a Type-C port controller and SuperSpeed mux for normal operation
  • Service-cable detection in discrete comparator logic — a keyed service cable is recognised with no firmware involved
  • 1.8 V debug UART switched onto the SBU pins only in service mode, with ESD protection
  • Force-recovery entry through the same connector, powered from an always-on debug rail so it works from a cold boot
  • Production package: schematics, layout, BOM and assembly data

Result

One connector, three functions — product I/O, debug console, recovery — with no firmware dependency and no extra openings in the housing. The device stays sealed and stays serviceable.

For businesses that need it to work in the field, not in a demo.
